Why Washing Machines Are at Extreme Risk During Moves
A front-load washing machine contains a 30 to 45 kg stainless steel drum suspended inside the cabinet by heavy coiled springs and hydraulic shock dampers. This floating design allows the drum to spin smoothly at 1,200 to 1,400 RPM during a wash cycle.
However, when transported inside a moving truck over hundreds of kilometers of highway potholes and speed breakers, that floating drum bounces with tremendous centrifugal momentum. Without Transit Locking Bolts, the heavy drum crashes against the outer plastic tub, snapping the suspension struts and causing thousands of rupees in unrepairable damage.
The 4 Steps to Safely Prep a Washing Machine
Step 1: Drain Residual Water from the Drain Pump Filter
Even after a complete spin cycle, 1 to 2 liters of dirty wash water remains trapped inside the internal pump reservoir and drain hose. Unclip the small access flap at the bottom right corner, place a shallow tray underneath, pull the mini drain plug, and let all stagnant water drain out completely.
Step 2: Screw in the 4 Rear Transit Bolts
Locate the 4 plastic-capped bolt holes on the rear metal backplate. Insert the original factory shipping bolts through the holes and tighten them clockwise with a 10mm or 12mm wrench until the internal drum feels completely rigid and does not wobble.
Step 3: Secure Hoses and Power Cord
Disconnect the cold water inlet pipe from the wall tap. Place both the inlet pipe and corrugated drain hose inside the empty drum or tape them securely flat against the back panel to prevent them from being crushed under the machine during loading.
Step 4: 360-Degree Quilted Blanket & Bubble Wrap Cushioning
First Choice packing crews encase the exterior enamel body in thick furniture moving blankets, followed by 5-ply corrugated cardboard corner edge protectors and stretch film to prevent side dents and scratches.
🚨 CRITICAL REMINDER: Remove Bolts Before First Wash!
When you unpack at your new home, ALWAYS unscrew and remove all 4 transit bolts before connecting water and starting your first cycle! Running a machine with locked bolts will cause violent floor jumping and destroy the drive motor. Keep the bolts in a labeled plastic bag for your next move.
